Integrity

Integrity is the key to Authentic Leadership

July 31, 2019 by Michelle Ray

Integrity is definitely one of my favorite words.

If you possess this quality, you are an authentic leader because people can see that you are true to your word. You shoot from the hip. You say it the way it is. You are a person who means what you say and people get that feeling from you. You’re not giving platitudes for the sake of giving platitudes. You are trustworthy. You really are a person who is a person of your word and I don’t know how many leaders I have had in my life who have possessed this quality but, when they do, it’s really easy to work for a person who possesses a high level of integrity because it’s very attractive.

It’s something that I felt very comfortable with and I know that for you as a leader, your team are gonna feel more and more comfortable with you when they can see that you are genuine and that you are consistently practicing integrity in all of your interactions. Be the authentic leader who practices integrity.

Why humility is important in Leadership

June 5, 2019 by Michelle Ray

When I think back to my career and one of the most influential leaders in my history at work, it was an individual who practiced tremendous humility and I found it to be an incredibly attractive quality. This was a person who was very transparent and always willing to let us know when she had made a mistake and whenever she was successful, she also knew how to be humble and there wasn’t a lot of room for her ego in her leadership style and today people are still craving that humility for their leaders and from their leaders.

You see, humility is not humiliation. Humility is strength. Humility is a willingness to display that you are human and that you do make mistakes, so be the humble leader because when you are the humble leader, you are the authentic leader and that will add to your repertoire of skills that will make you successful for years to come.

One of the most decorated war veterans in Australia was a fellow by the name of Sir Edward Dunlop and he had this to say about humility. He says the ideal leader is the servant of all able to display humility without the loss of authority. Humility as a leader is one of the most desirable qualities that you can posses. It’s what makes you authentic, it’s what makes you attractive to your workforce.

So, remember, humility is something that all of us can tap into. All we need to do is show our true selves and show up in total integrity and honesty.

Leaving a leadership legacy: Three tenets to live by

December 23, 2015 by Michelle Ray

As I watched the founder of one of Canada’s best places to work grace the stage, it became apparent that not only was he deeply moved by the reaction of his staff, but also reflective and humbled as his team applauded and stood to honour his legacy. Every team member, as well as managers at all levels, had been impacted by their founder’s philosophy, both personally and professionally.

Rarely have I seen such a display of affection for a leader, for a company. The fabric of the organization’s culture was entirely woven by the values and principles of a very special man. On this occasion, staff had gathered from around the world to celebrate a major milestone in the company’s history.  All were acutely aware of the significance of the event and the moment, realizing that the organization’s next chapter would be theirs to write.  [Read more…] about Leaving a leadership legacy: Three tenets to live by
