Transformational leaders possess the gift of finding solutions to complex problems by entertaining new ideas…and acting upon them. These leaders welcome innovative thinking and recognize the benefits of tapping into the brilliance of employees at any level of an organization, encouraging individuals to hone an entrepreneurial mindset. Above all else, transformational leaders clearly understand the intricacies of a rapidly changing world of business, driven by technology and innovation.
In a recently released Price Waterhouse Coopers report entitled “Workforces of the Future. The Competing Forces Shaping 2030” researchers identify four new worlds of work defined as: Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. Carol Stubbings, PWC Joint Global Leader, People and Organisation, describes the Red World as “all about speed and innovation…getting likeminded people together, bringing new ideas and new businesses to the market quickly.” The report emphasizes one central message for leaders: “Act Now.”
Transformational leaders champion an environment of continuous improvement where ideas can be generated across the board. The convergence of new ideas and different ways of thinking result in opportunities for greater innovation. Gone are the days when organizations can afford to maintain the status quo. Pat Riley, basketball executive, coach and former player famously said: “Complacency is the last hurdle standing between any team and it’s potential greatness.”
How can you accelerate the production of new ideas? Become a life-long learner, remain open-minded, and foster greater collaboration. Great leaders bring out the best in themselves by bringing out the best in others.
